Parcell: “A Different World” is a must watch

Jordan Parcell

As a senior, I find myself with a lot of free time on my hands. One of my favorite pastimes recently has been sitting in my freezing cold basement and binging TV shows. I eventually found myself running low on shows to watch, because I can only watch the Great British Baking Show so many times before I lose my mind.

Growing up, I always watched reruns of “The Cosby Show.” It’s safe to assume that I’ve seen every episode a few times over. Recently, however, I’ve rediscovered the spinoff show “A Different World.”

The show begins with Denise Huxtable, a main character on “The Cosby Show” beginning college at Hillman, a fictional HBCU. After she eventually drops out, the show begins following different background characters while introducing new ones.

I absolutely love this show for so many reasons. The cast is amazing and they have great onscreen chemistry, it’s full of diversity and the writers did a fantastic job of balancing serious topics and lighthearted humor. The show talks about racial issues, family problems, sexual assault and so many other things while balancing them with humor.

If you’re ever looking for a show to watch, I would highly recommend this one. It’s undoubtedly my favorite series that I’ve watched thus far. It’s available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
