Senior Cason Lindsey was honored as Kansas’ 2021 Wrestler of the Year on Feb. 27 and then won his second consecutive 6A title at 152 pounds. Only three other Derby wrestlers have won two or more state titles.

Lindsey wrestled in the 6A semifinals all four years, advancing to three straight championship matches. He became the eighth Panthers wrestler to medal all four years.

All five state qualifiers medaled. Senior Cody Woods suffered a devastating loss. He finished the match ahead 8-6, but after the score was disputed, he lost in overtime.

Sophomores Tate Rusher (126 pounds), Knowlyn Egan (132) and Miles Wash (182) each placed fourth.

Freshman Amara Ehsa was the Panthers’ first female wrestler to qualify for the state tournament and placed fifth at 101 pounds.
