Panther’s Tale receives $1,000 grant from Derby Community Foundation Grant Program Fund

The Panther’s Tale was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Derby Community Foundation Grant Program Fund on March 10 in relation to Covid-19 response and recovery.

The grant will be used to pay for The Panther’s Tale’s costs of being printed in the Derby Informer.

The student journalists who are responsible for producing the stories, 

“Selling ads is always really difficult,” senior content editor Mya Studyvin said. “We work with underclassmen, and they get very nervous. And it is hard for them to interact with the business world, and that is a hurdle we jump through. 

“Now we add in the pandemic, which is its own monster.”

This grant will pay for the newspaper’s four issues created during Term 3, which extended from January through March.

“We have sometimes had to pay for the paper from our own pocket due to difficulty in ad sales,” Studyvin said. “Now because of this grant, we can now focus on putting out a quality product instead of focusing on money.”
