Fall sports adjust as practice begins

The first day of all fall sports practices on Aug. 16 sure was interesting.

There were two lightning delays, and athletes and coaches had to adjust and still make the day worthwhile.

Coaches and athletes were ready and excited for the start of the season and the lightning delays did not slow them down.

“I was super excited to finally have the first day of my junior football season start. Even though the lighting was disappointing, it was OK,” junior Brock Zerger said.

Boys and girls cross country ran through the school for their workout, while football adjusted by using the inside sports facility to continue their workouts on Monday.

“We have an indoor facility that we can go practice in so we did not have to end early or lose time,” Zerger said.

Boys soccer, though, which practices at the soccer complex by the fire department on Madison Avenue, missed a full hour of tryouts.

“I was disappointed in the lightning because we didn’t get to start right on time,” junior Quincy Masumbu said. “We had a 30-minute delay (at the start), and we didn’t get to go the full length of the tryout.”.
