Bird Scooters scoot into Derby

Derby is introducing a familiar childhood activity to Derby, but with a bit of an upgrade

You now can find 50-100 Bird Scooters stationed within the city limits of Derby.

Most encounters with these electric rides have been in Wichita. But now, whether it’s for an outing with friends, transportation to work or used for a greener travel option, the new scooters can be rented on Bird’s mobile app.

“I don’t think they are very necessary, but it will be pretty fun to mess around on them,“ senior Isaac Meek said.

Even though they aren’t free, the scooters have potential to be favorable to people who do not have their own source of transportation.

“It seems a little much just to rent, but I could see it being used for kids who don’t have rides to get around easier,” senior Gavyn Abshire said. “Although I don’t really see them being beneficial in the afternoon when traffic is busy, I can see them being somewhat helpful, maybe around the strip mall or High Park.”
