Junior Mason Madrigal grew up playing football at Panther Stadium, but he was thrilled by the changes made during the $7,377,704 renovation over the summer.

“I think it’s awesome,” he said. “It looks amazing. Really brings the entire community together.”

New seats, new concession stand and a new Panther apparel store are just the tipping point when it comes to the new-look stadium.

I still think it’s great we have one stadium in the center of town,” Derby Mayor Randy White wrote in an email before the ribbon cutting on Aug. 26 during Derby Night Lights. “It will be nice when they get it done. Gates, sound, banners, etc. Still got some work to do.”

For Madrigal, the thing he cherishes most is growing up on the field.

“All the memories growing up and watching Derby football,” Madrigal said.

Even with change, traditions still stand.

I think people will miss their lawn chairs but that is probably ok,” White said. “But I’m sure the north end outside the gates will still be popular.”

Other changes include new restrooms, home bleachers and a press box.
