  1. Devious Licks

(started Sept. 1, 2021)

  • What is it?
  • Students steal or vandalize an item from their school. They steal things such as soap dispensers, signs, toilet seats and even steal doors, Smartboards, teachers’ Macbooks, and TV monitors.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • This causes damage and costs the school serious amounts of money. It’s more time that staff have to spend on these stolen items, and more money that they have to spend to replace or fix these items. Not having soap during the ongoing Coronavirus, this challenge is dangerous. Stealing street or parking lot signs can result in accidents that can cause injuries or even be fatal. Stealing electronics from the school creates another huge dent in the school’s finances.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 4/10 — Not specifically dangerous, just disruptive and stupid. You could also earn yourself a felony on your record.

  1. Crate Challenge

(started Aug. 1, 2021)

  • What is it?
  • Milk crates are stacked up to resemble stairs, or a podium, and a person is challenged to walk up them without falling, losing balance or making the crates tip over.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • There is a high probability that you will hurt yourself. This challenge can cause serious injuries to any part of your body. You will hurt yourself in some way or another.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 10/10 — Very dangerous and can most likely cause multiple injuries, including serious ones.

  1. Coronavirus challenge

(started in March, during covid quarantine)

  • What is it?
  • People go out and lick items in public, like hand rails, poles, doorknobs, toilet seats and other things. The main challenge of it is to not catch the Coronavirus.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • It is basically Russian Roulette, but the gun is fully loaded. You could not only catch Coronavirus, but many other germs can enter your body and make you sick.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 8/10 — Covid can kill you, and is easily spreadable, and can harm the people around you too. The challenge is not worth it.

  1. Throw it in the air challenge

(started in late 2019)

  • What is it?
  • A group of people stand in a circle, put their heads down and throw an object in the air and let it fall. The item will then hit someone in the head. The main challenge is to not have it fall on your head. People have used smaller, more tame objects, like basketballs, eggs, and plastic water bottles, but it has gone as far as to throw big trash dumpsters, TVs, traffic cones, ladders and even stand up basketball hoops.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • The why doesn’t even need to be explained. This challenge can result in concussions, neck and back injuries, and can ultimately lead to paralysis. Neck and back injuries can change your life.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 10/10 — Just – no. Don’t do this. You could snap your neck in half.

  1. Benadryl challenge

(started around May 2020)

  • What is it?
  • A trend in which Tiktokers take excessive amounts, basically attempt an overdose, on the allergy medicine Benadryl to see if they will get high from it and have hallucinations. They record their reaction to it to upload on TikTok.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • Taking too much of this medication can lead to serious heart problems, seizures, comas, and even death. In August 2020, a 15-year-old died, and a family member stated the Benadryl challenge originating from TikTok was the reason for her death. Medications should only be used for their intended purpose.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 10/10 — This is never something anyone should do, with Benadryl or any other meds.

  1. Silhouette challenge

(started Jan. 14, 2020)

  • What is it?
  • A transition video where someone stands in front of a doorway, fully clothed and in normal lighting. Then, the transition switches to them standing in front of the same doorway, but with the lights off and a red backdrop behind them, which is what creates the silhouette. In the second part of the video, they are either wearing lingerie and other revealing clothing, or they are completely nude.
  • Why is it dangerous?
  • For minors, it is a very sexual trend that should not be posted, or even attempted. Of course, it is sexual for anyone no matter the age, but being a minor and posting something such as this could lead to charges of child pornography. It could also create charges on people who watch it or have it in their possession, especially if they are over 18. This trend could equal jail or juvy time, not just for the creator, but the watcher as well. Things like this can also attract predators online, and even stalkers. Another problem with this trend is that people are taking these videos and figuring out how to edit them to remove the filter and turn up brightness, which will expose the person’s body and make everything visible. Then, these edited videos and photos were being posted without the Tiktokers permission, so basically their nudes were being spread.
  • Rating 1-10 danger level
  • 6/10 — Not specifically dangerous, but could lead to legal charges, and in a scary scenario, a predator going after you. It also makes your body very public, and can show up on records when applying for future jobs. But if you’re 18, to each their own I guess.
