The boys soccer team clinched a share of the AVCTL I title with its 2-0 win over Newton on Oct. 19 at the Panther Soccer Complex.

The Panthers are 13-1-1 overall and in the AVCTL I they are 5-0-1. They tied Maize South 0-0 on Sept. 27 and will share the title with the Mavericks.

The Panthers’ lone loss was 1-0 to Wichita East on Oct. 5, but that was a non-league game.

The Panthers have outscored their opponents 43-5 this season and have not allowed more than one goal in a game.

Derby would have shut out league opponents, if it weren’t for a goal in the last nine seconds at Hutchinson on Sept. 30.

Derby plays at Eisenhower at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday to end the regular season. The postseason starts next week.
