Student athletes prepare for winter sports

As the cold season rolled in, athletes were starting to warm up for winter sports tryouts, which start today for boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling and boys swimming.

Students were getting ready in their own ways.

“I’ve been doing timed miles and staying in the gym a lot,” said sophomore Katrina Inthavong, a wrestler.

Some people are trying to deal with the nerves of trying out.

“I am nervous about the trying out part. We have really good coaches though who push us to go that extra mile and get out of the ‘I can’t do it’ mindset,” sophomore girls basketball player Jaden Wilson said.

Returning students had their inputs on how the upcoming seasons will go.

“I think it’ll go pretty well,” senior swimmer Will McCabe said. “We have new guys incoming, plenty of returnees from last year, and people either on or were on club teams, so safe to say it’ll be a good season.”

Putting logistics aside, some students were just excited to be able to be back out with the team.

“I’m more than excited because of all the team chemistry we’ve built over time and how much we’ve grown as a unit and individually. Everyone has been putting in work to get better this season because we know we have lots of talent and if we put our mind to it we can all go very far this season,” senior Fontaine Williams said.
