Get college credits early through WSU Tech

Dual credit classes from WSU Tech allow students to take college classes during their junior and senior years of high school.

While general education classes can be taken after graduating, students can save money by taking them now.

“(The classes), most of them are free while in high school,” school counselor Joaquin Zapata said. “For some kids, that might be a career chance.”

Taking classes through WSU Tech will give students credit hours to use going forward, as well as help students get ahead of the curve if they choose to pursue a college degree.

“They’re getting credit for the high school class and the college class simultaneously for a very inexpensive rate,” said Anita Curtis, who teaches College Algebra.

Of course these are college-level classes, meaning taking them will be as difficult as if taking the class after high school graduation.

“(Take) one or two at a time just to see how hard it really is and figure out if that’s really the path for you,” Zapata said.

“If you’re really thinking about going to college, why would you not try to take a college class in high school?”
