Humans of Derby: Charles Hon

Felicia Frederick

Derby High School graduate of 1963 Charles Hon was spending a quiet Tuesday afternoon at Derby’s High Park teaching his grandson how to fish. Hon moved to Derby right before his freshman year and stayed all the way to his senior year.

When asked what he did during his time at Derby High, Hon said, “I was a first chair baritone all four years I was there.”

After he graduated, he joined the Navy and worked on a submarine for six years. After he served in the Navy, he went to Wichita State for a year and played softball for the BFW team and won many championships during his time on the team. Shortly after going to WSU, Hon began working as an electrician before retiring.

He now enjoys spending days with his family and enjoying his retirement.
