Page 5 – Expectation shift across the grades

It’s been almost 5 months since the new freshmen had their orientation.

At first, freshman expectations may have been to meet new people, or just to get used to the school in general.

Getting used to high school can be scary.

Most freshmen seem to be worried about grades the most.

“For the rest of high school is to just get good grades,” said freshman Jayla Hopson.

With all of the new aspects, it can be overwhelming.

While freshmen could be overwhelmed about high school, seniors could be overwhelmed about college.

“Go to university and get my bachelors and then afterward pursue a graduate degree or other things then advance further into a career,” said senior Pearl Rivas.

However, when you dig deeper, there are more similarities than meets the eye.

But with the semester almost over, freshman expectations for high school have shifted.

This shift can also be caused by finals approaching as well.

Because of this, some freshmen’s expectations are to improve grades overall.

This isn’t just limited to freshmen, though.

This expectation shift is also the case for seniors as well.

Some expectations for seniors after high school include attending college, getting a part-time job to save up for college, joining the workforce early or joining the military.

Or just taking a break before facing the next chapter of their lives.

While some seniors still have another semester before high school is over for them, others have chosen to graduate early in December.

“Since I’m graduating early, I plan on just giving myself like a year to work so I can earn some money,” said junior Alyssa Hargis.
