Wichita’s Kerosene Skate Shop a boon for local skaters

Skateboarding culture seems to be thriving within the Derby community. Whether or not you’re riding in a skatepark or elsewhere, the passion is seen.

Recently Wichita gained another skate shop, Kerosene Skate Shop, which is off South Pattie Street. Not only does it sell skateboards and accessories, but it also has clothing and shoes.

Owner Alex Vestal runs two locations, including one in Joplin, Mo. He has been running the shop in Joplin for over three years.

“We really want our shop to have an open door policy where anybody of any skill level is welcome in to ask questions or learn,” Vestal said.

Currently within the Sedgwick County there are several skate parks. Some riders have been building their own private indoor parks as well.

Opening a local shop opens opportunities for skaters, too.

“We are currently working on a skate team that will help operate and represent the Wichita location. This will make it a more personal experience for skaters all over the city,” Vestal said.
