Page 3: Birthdays in quarantine

Over the past year, most people’s birthday plans had been adjusted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sophomore Sara Collins loves to spend time with her family and go to Kobe for her birthday dinner, but she didn’t get to do either this year because she was quarantined due to being in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid.

¨It was really upsetting not being able to do everything and what I wanted,¨ Collins wrote in a text.

Parker Tauer and Paetyn Kennedy had a similar situation — neither had the usual birthday celebration.

Kennedy didn’t get to spend her birthday with family or friends, which is what has always made her birthday special.

“(It was) very difficult because I couldn’t see any family or friends outside of school. I felt extremely lonely,” she wrote in a text. “Spending my birthday with others is what makes my birthday come to life.”

Some students still celebrated in a similar fashion.

Kaylee Farmer got to go to Texas with a friend for her birthday, but it was still weird not to celebrate with a special dinner.

Sophomore Anthony West, though, said nothing changed from how he usually spends his birthdays.“I felt like that because its family and nothing will change,” West wrote in a text. ”It made me feel happy because I saw my family during this (time), and the best part was the cake. It was really good.”
