As their final meet before AVCTL league on Oct. 14, the panthers competed at the Newton High School Invitational on Sept. 30. 

Junior Piper Hula took third place with a time of 20:51:00. Junior Lucas Kreutzer took 24th place with a time of 18:13:09. 

Derby took eighth in varsity girls and tenth in varsity boys with 196 and 212 points respectively. 

The Newton Invitational follows the previous week’s Rim Rock Classic meet in Lawrence where Hula finished in 22nd place with a time of 20:45:60. 

AVCTL league will be held at Salina Central on Oct. 14, followed by Regionals at Cessna Activity Center in Wichita, hosted by Wichita East, on Oct. 21.
