The advanced AV class, known as DTV, is a place where videographers can find their true interest. At the end of the year, DTV posts their senior episode.
The episode is meant for the seniors to have one last chance to post a segment or video on DTV.
“I think the senior episode is important because this gives a chance to give an episode all to themselves and have one last chance to post something on DTV.” senior Zoe Shreve said. “They can also dedicate their last week to DTV itself and put something new online.”
The final episode means a lot to seniors and DTV as a whole. DTV is a platform to create and the senior episode gives the seniors one last chance to put something online for DTV.
“To me the senior episode is like one great big finale.” senior Cavey Viney said. “Everything I’ve learned and done in DTV compiled into one segment in an episode.”
The skill and experience that the seniors have gained throughout the years is all put into one episode, and future generations of DTV can have something to look forward to with the existence of the senior episode.
“It’s sort of the end of an era for each student who graduates from DTV.” Viney said. “There have been many generations of DTV and it just symbolizes the end of the era for them. It feels weird doing the senior episode. I never really thought about my time in DTV ending until recently.”
Being a senior in DTV, or in any organization is tough, primarily because they have the knowledge of graduating at the end of the year.
“The senior episodes affect seniors by making them feel important and the work that they’ve put in is being seen and appreciated.” senior Tomie Kerby said. “Their existence at Derby High School was appreciated and they will absolutely be missed. Like Brianna (Santian)’s video is of the seniors’ baby pictures and that isn’t just people in DTV, it’s people in the entire high school.”
There is another importance of the senior episode: An official goodbye from the seniors of Derby High School.
“There’s a quote that I really like by Oscar Wilde: To define is to limit.” Kerby said. “My final message to seniors and DTV is to not limit yourself and to explore many different genres of videos. Explore absolutely everything and don’t be afraid to limit yourself.”
