Two Freshman Girl Classes

Due to Covid-19 canceling last year’s girls soccer season we are now faced with two groups of freshmen.

“So our sophomore class is theoretically the second (freshman class),” coach Paul Burke said. “… We never got to see them do anything but the two weeks of tryouts then practice. And then it was over. We never got to see them play in a game… So yes, you can call them ‘red shirt freshman,’ that’s a good way to look at it.”

Covid brought new changes making this season unique in its own unprecedented way.

As discouraging as the loss of the previous season was, current and previous freshmen have handled it as best as they could.

“I was disappointed but I understood why because at the time covid was a new thing, so I think it was probably our only option. But obviously I wish we had a season,” said sophomore Kirsten Bourgeois.

Many of the players were disappointed but mainly they were already over it and ready for their next season.

“I felt devastated because I wasn’t able to show my potential to the coaches. I also felt like I could get a second chance to play better next year and I did so. It was a 50/50 of good and bad,” sophomore Annette Castillo said.

The varsity team consists of two current freshmen: Bianka Shultz and Addison Legget. Both girls were excited and shocked about making the team as freshmen.

“I’m just grateful to play on the varsity team as a freshman and I am just looking forward to this season and getting to play with the varsity team,” Legget said.

“I have some upperclassmen friends that make practice fun and easier,” Shultz said.

“Everyone is really nice and welcoming,” Legget said.
