The high school football season is finally upon us.

The back-to-back Class 6A state champs start a new season on Friday.

“I feel like we are all excited for the first game… we have a great game plan and I feel like we will be able to execute it,” Panthers senior linebacker Chris Whalen said.

A new season brings a new quarterback in junior Hunter Igo.

“I think Igo is going to bring all to the table. He’s got a great arm… he’s a pretty versatile player,” Whalen said.

There’s also a new defensive line, a lone returning linebacker in senior Alex McGill, along with senior Tyler Brown, who transferred from Valley Center.

“It just takes time to get the chemistry right… I have no fears we’ll get it figured out,” Whalen said. “I’ve always been about working hard and being the best you can be, so I want to make it my best last (first) game.”

The Eisenhower Tigers host the Panthers at Goddard High at 7 Friday night.
