The Panthers’ season opener on Sept. 1 against Eisenhower was junior Hunter Igo’s first game as starting quarterback.

Junior Hunter Igo looks for a play call from coaches before a snap.

“It was pretty cool going out there with the guys that want to win, that want to go out as their senior year as winning all their games and (being) state champions,” Igo said.

The two-time defending 6A state champs play at Goddard, the 5A runner-up, on Friday.

“We have a lot of room to improve on as far as making reads, the (offensive) line blocking, receivers running correct routes and blocking longer,” Igo said.

The defensive line operated with only one returning starter in senior Alex McGill, giving up two touchdowns in the 34-point win.

McGill suffered a season-ending injury.

“Defensive wise we have a lot of room to improve on as well with making tackles… our offensive line really pushes them in practice to get better.” Igo said.

Goddard opened the season with a 42-20 victory over Olathe Northwest.

“They do have a lot of people coming back, but we can have just as much talent as them,” Igo said.
