During the first game of the season against Goddard Eisenhower, senior Evan Clark walked off the field in the middle of the game with an injury. He later found out he had a partially torn MCL.

The injury healed, and Clark returned for the Sept. 29 game against Bishop Carroll.

“I was pretty excited, honestly,” Clark said. “My first play out I got a pancake and I was like ‘what is good.’ So yeah, I was pretty excited.”

Gutierrez and Clark back together again, as queen and king this time.

Clark was also voted homecoming king on Sept. 29.

Clark sat out three games, missing Goddard, Maize and Hutchinson.

“When I have a brace on I’m pretty good,” he said. “Like during the game it didn’t hurt at all. My knee was fine. Sometimes I still feel a little weak.”

Derby coach Brandon Clark didn’t put any limitations on him.

“When we were driving the ball and offense I was in for like every play, but during PAT (point after touchdown), I asked to be taken out because the way that we do it my knee was just wide open for anyone to come in and just destroy me,” Evan Clark said. “So I asked if I could be taken out cause it just wasn’t the best scenario for me.”

Clark will play in the remaining games of the season, making up for the few he had to sit out.

“I’m just looking forward to just playing out there,” he said.
