When the National Art Honor Society had a painting party after school on Tuesday, the thick smell of paint filled K3 while a hair-dryer hummed in the background as a student used it to dry her painting.

After doing service work throughout the year, including face painting at football games and for children with leukemia at Light the Night, NAHS decided on a different sort of event.

“We decided that we wanted to do something kind of fun, so we talked about doing a paint party,” NAHS sponsor Natalie Brown said.

During the party, the students based their paintings off one Brown found online.

“It’s basically like an evening or night sky with a moon, and then there’s a tree with fall leaves falling down,” Brown said.

The paint party was successful.

“I think so far people are having fun,” Brown said. “Everyone’s kind of little uncomfortable, ‘it looks like a mess.’ But then they keep on working on it, and it starts getting better and better and it’s starting to get in the direction they liked it.”

While painting itself is fun for NAHS members, being together makes it even more special.

“It’s actually really fun so far,” junior Mahalia Hartfield said. “It’s fun coming together and painting with friends.”
