Panthers boys swimming starts out strong

On Nov. 29, the boys swim team had an astounding opening win to their season in Emporia.

The team wasn’t doing too great until junior Christian Tafoya stepped onto the diving board. Tafoya crushed the competition and ended up winning the diving portion of the meet, setting the Panthers up with a great score.

Juniors Jack McDaniel and Xavier Wright, senior Ethan Pinkerton and freshman Trent Voth made up the 200-meter freestyle relay that went 1:37.04, which made consideration for state.

Senior Tyler Newbury ended up winning the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1.15.

At the end of the meet McDaniel, Newbury, Wright and Voth won the 400-meter relay.

The team ended its first meet with a total of 542 points, beating the second-place team by 220 points.
