This world was not built for women.

In fact, I believe that women are set up for failure every single day. 

Our world was built for men, by men.

Sexism wasn’t always around, though.It emerged around 12,000 years ago, when humans started farming. 

When people began to settle down, they started gathering resources to survive and building homes for their families. Men took over the physically demanding tasks because most of the time, men were physically stronger.

Fathers, grandfathers, sons and uncles began living near each other, passing down their land and property.

The patriarchy emerged and has been alive since. 

Men have always taken over government roles, and while it has been opened to women, there aren’t many, and women in government roles are widely disrespected and discriminated against.

In 2025, men hold approximately 71.8% of the 535 seats in Congress, with 151 seats held by women.

There are similar rates in the Senate, House of Representatives, and state legislatures.

The first woman to run for president, Hilary Clinton, was the democratic nominee for president in 2016. 

The scrutiny she endured was extremely hateful, and most of it was not even due to her political beliefs, just her gender.

Speaking of government, the number of laws against women’s bodies are significantly greater than the laws against men’s bodies.

Paid maternity leave isn’t even federally required in the U.S.How do you take care of yourself and your newborn baby without getting paid?

Sure, you may have your spouse, but most of the time, that is not enough. What if you don’t even have a spouse? You’re screwed.

That’s only a couple of the insanely sexist laws in the U.S.

Are we serious?

But it’s not just the U.S.

Israeli women can’t get divorced without their husband’s permission; then she’s stuck for life, and it wasn’t that long ago that this is how America was.

Russian women can’t work certain jobs to protect their fertility.

This is one of many examples of women being treated solely like vessels and baby makers.

The abortion clinic closures, the overturning of Roe v. Wade, a court case that protected the right to have an abortion prior to the point of fetal viability, the expenses of over-the-counter emergency contraceptives like Plan B, and many other laws against abortion affect women daily.

Despite the complete system failure, women continue to defy the sexist principles set in front of them and drilled into their minds every single day.

I think that the things women have accomplished while being discriminated against all these years have made for stronger women with each generation.

I see more and more people standing up for their rights and values.

While we as a gender still have so far to go, we have gotten places, whether the world wants us to or not.
