Most people hate the cold, it leaves you achy, feeling and feeling. But for sophomore Angelica Rodriguez, her family has a special tradition to warm themselves up.
“We eat this soup called pozole. There’s two different ways to make it, one of the ways is with pork and hominy. That one is my favorite,” said Rodriguez.
Pozole is a traditional Mexican stew. It’s composed of dried peppers, hominy kernels and tender pork. Its often topped with cabbage, radishes, lime wedges and oregano. For most families, it’s not just a meal, it’s a ritual.
“It’s meaningful. It shows that you value your family’s culture,” said Rodriguez. “We always eat it in the winter, it helps warm us up. I like to sit with my family as we eat it together. It really gives us something to look forward to.”
