Orchestra is a musical outlet that allows people to express themselves through instruments that have long been a fan favorite.
“I really love the creative freedom that comes from it,” sophomore Rylee Burdick said.
For some, the initial yearn to be involved derives from hearing the first sound of the symphony.
“I first joined an orchestra because I would hear violins in like the songs I would listen to and I would like them so much,” sophomore Burdick said.
It’s more than sound — it’s a meaningful escape.
It also allows for new and thrilling experiences, giving students room to grow in their confidence and ability.
“I like orchestra because I have made many friends throughout as well as gotten very cool opportunities to go to different competitions,” sophomore Kaylee Cole said.
Cole joined the orchestra in search of something exciting, she then discovered her love for the violin.
“I really wanted to learn an instrument and thought that violin was perfect for me,” Cole said.
In some cases being influenced by your friends or parents plays a crucial role in their success.
“I joined in middle school because I thought that it might be interesting and my mom told me that I should play,” sophomore Mika Cermak said.
Although it does come with many challenges like memorizing the music, staying on track with others and first learning how to play the instrument.
“The most challenging part about orchestra is learning new music and making sure all the parts throughout the orchestra are on time with each other,” Cole said.
These obstacles have yet to stop their love for the growing performing art. For Burdick, it has the opposite effect.
“I’ve really found a big passion for it over the past five years I’ve been playing,” Burdick said.
