The boys basketball team is 2-4, but just looking at the record doesn’t show you what this team has done.
The Panthers have outscored opponents 352-330, and have many highlight reel plays.
“My favorite moment was either the lob to Cale (Clingan) or when Malakhai (Lu Chantivong) got a steal and passed me the ball for a dunk.” senior Daven Johnson said.
In both wins they have scored over 70 points and won by 30 or more.
The boys picked up their first loss of the season to Blue Valley Northwest on Dec. 11, 59-53. Clingan had 31 points and five blocks.
“My favorite game was definitely the Blue Valley Northwest game,” Clingan said. “It was unfortunate that we lost but we played really well… just couldn’t hit some shots that we needed down the stretch.”
On Dec. 12, the boys took down back-to-back 6A state champion Shawnee Mission North West 73-28.
In the big win, senior Tobin Snider and sophomore Greg Stiger each had 13 points behind another Clingan 20-point game.
The team always keeps the crowd locked in to the game. Clingan and Johnson have both been above the rim this year, throwing down some crowd engaging dunks.
“This year’s team has a lot of talent and people should come watch because of our ability to play above the rim and highlight type plays,” Johnson said.
Behind Clingan, junior Avant Riley is scoring the ball at a high level as well. In the two games Clingan was less productive offensively, Riley posted 21 points.
In every game but the one against Staley, a player has posted above 17 points.
The Panthers return to play Salina South on Jan. 2.
