When I tell people I am a Democrat, some people jump to one conclusion: I must not be a Christian if I agree with the blue side.
They are mistaken. I am a Christian, and honestly, I think many Democrats have more Christian beliefs than President Trump.
Look at what Trump is doing. According to USA Today, in just the first month of 2026, about 73,000 people were being held in ICE detention centers. Of those 73,000, only about 5% actually had convictions for violent offenses; the rest of them were either racially profiled or got in trouble for crossing an imaginary line we drew on the ground hundreds of years ago.
But Jesus was born in the Middle East, so he was not white. If Jesus were in America today, I believe he would have been detained purely because of the color of his skin.
According to the New International Version of the Bible (NIV), Leviticus 19:33-34 says, “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.”
My Christian beliefs also tell me to love my neighbors, not just those who are straight.
If Trump were a Christian, he would believe this, too. However, his actions say otherwise.
Trump has gone out of his way to make people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community feel like they are outsiders and don’t belong in America. He has even gone so far as to oppose the Equality Act, which would establish protections for individuals in housing, employment, public accommodation and education.
But in Matthew 22:39 does it not say, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”? This entire verse is telling us, the children of God, to accept one another for who we are. It is not our place to judge, because at the end of the day, we are all sinners.
As someone who is highly politically opinionated, I am no stranger to the MAGA agenda. I know what they are rooting for. It is not to make America great, as they advertise, but to make the rich richer and continue to divide America.
If Trump truly cared about his citizens, why did he decide to cut food stamps from the states that were predominantly Democratic?
The Bible tells us “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” If Trump were truly Christian, like his supporters claim, why would he not feed his “enemy” like the Bible says?
America no longer feels like a democracy; America is under a dictatorship and we need to take action before it’s too late. Quit feeding into all of the false things Trump has been saying, and do your research.
I will no longer allow my faith to be associated with a corrupt president and you shouldn’t, either.
