In a high school with more than 2,000 students, you are likely to find that some or even most people don’t believe the same things as you.
More often than not, I find when I disagree with someone, they have the same beliefs as their parents do.
Now, there is nothing wrong with listening to and trusting your parents’ beliefs.
But kids say things that are obviously not true. Then when asked why they believe that, they can’t answer.
They heard something from their parents and don’t know what it means.
Some of my friends who I don’t see eye to eye with don’t like having political conversations with me. Their reason is they say I get “angry.”
The truth is, I tell them why they’re wrong. Or I end up getting frustrated with them because I hate when people who don’t listen to public news or read any articles try to talk to me about it.
My suggestion: Pick a topic, then read an article from a right-wing news outlet and one from a left-wing news outlet. Now that you’ve seen two sides, what’s your opinion?
Some people have told me I need to worry less about politics and more about my faith or reading a Bible. To that, I say Jesus loved all people.
I got asked the other day if I would let a random stranger into my house to live and, of course, I said no. But Jesus would call us to help that person out.
I hardly ever just listened to my parents. What I did listen to them about though, was going to church and being involved in my faith.
Listening to your parents’ beliefs is always a good thing, but not looking into it for yourself is one of the worst things you can do for yourself.
