If you’ve been around for a while, you know that Taylor Swift has a lot of haters. But if she has so many fans, what are the reasons that people have to despise her?
“People compare her to so many people,” senior Madison Hite said. “She does so much good stuff for people. She visits sick kids in hospitals; she’s just a good person, I love her for that.”
Hite began her Swiftie journey in 2018. She was only in elementary school when she knew that she would find her music taste in Swift.
“I was like 9 years old when I touched her hand in 2018, at the Reputations concert. I had floor seats for that one, and they were free because they have this thing where people can actually donate tickets to the military, and my dad got them,” Hite said. “So then I went to the Era’s tour, Kansas City, night one. I (also) went to the one in New Orleans.”
But out of all the music artists in the world, Swift takes the cake every time for Hite.
“I just love her lyrics, they’re so good,” Hite said. “She’s also a good-hearted person in general, and like people hate on her because she’s so popular, but the stuff she does, like the programs, donations, everything like that. Everyone’s so quick to hate on her; everyone is so quick to hate on girls, in general.”
Most people have their own individual music tastes, but that’s not the case with this devotee.
“When I first moved (to Missouri), (my best friend and I) bonded over Taylor Swift; we both went to her concert, not together on separate nights. We made our bracelets together for the concert and everything together. When her albums come out, we FaceTime if we’re not together and listen to them at the same time together.
Nowadays, there are a lot of small, good parts about celebrities that some have never even heard of, and you definitely don’t see a lot of acts of kindness anymore.
Often nowadays, acts of kindness are not found in leaders, but more in the people we least expect.
Following the death of Ana Machado at the Rio De Janeiro Eras Tour stop on Nov. 23, Taylor Swift met with her family backstage, then covered their travel expenses and made a private donation.
“She paid for their funeral,” Hite said. “I love what she does.”
