I think that high schoolers should not have more restrictions on driving
The reason I think this is because a lot of students play sports or stay after school for clubs, or they have siblings that their parents might not be able to drop off or pick up on time due to a work schedule. This is the reason that we need cars.
Some people say that teenage drivers are not as experienced as they are, which would be true, but how else would they get experience if we can’t drive?
Yes, we can drive in a parking lot, but driving on a residential street compared to a highway is a completely different thing.
This is why driving school is a thing where you sit down for a whole day learning about the rules and the signs, and then take your driving test, and if you pass, you get restricted to start learning by your parents or driving instructor.
For most teens, we have driven Go-Karts side by side and golf carts.
I know this isn’t experience, but it is learning some of the basics, like learning how to go straight, turn, and brake.
Yes, teenage drivers sometimes are dumb with the way they drive, but that is why car insurance is a thing if they damage someone’s car and it is their fault, they are responsible for it.
This is the reason insurance is higher on younger drivers, especially males.
In 2026, 12.6% of crashes were caused by drivers aged from 15-20, most of whom were from the high-risk category of 16-17 year olds, according to iihs.org
There is no reason for there to be more restrictions on driver’s licenses just because some teens suck at driving. We have lives outside of school, and for some of us, driving ourselves is the only option we have.
