For five consecutive weeks the derby softball team has stayed undefeated(16-0) through the regular season and remained in the top 10 power rankings in the state of Kansas.
The panthers climbed to the no.1 spot by week five, ranking higher than schools like Mill Valley, Washburn Rural and Basehor-Linwood. Including the previous year’s 6A state champion, Olathe West.
Though this dedication stems from hard work and passion to continue getting better.
“Going into this back half of the season 16-0 means that each team we play is bringing their absolute best to try and beat us,” senior Olivia Parra said. “We have to stay hitting, fielding and working hard to keep that up.”
Although, hard work and dedication is not the only thing keeping this team playing at a high level– it’s their commitment to each other and the team itself.
“We have such a good group of girls that balance each other well and are really compatible with just about anyone,” Parra said. “There’s just so much love throughout the team.”
This Friday the panthers will face the Haysville Campus Colts in a double header and then will play the Maize Eagles the following Tuesday for their senior night.
