As the school year comes to an end, all the spring and winter sports have their banquets.
Since most of the banquets are held at the end of the year, sophomore Brinley Minton and many others haven’t been to a banquet yet.
”I have not been to any banquets this year, as they are all coming up towards the end of the year,” Minton said.
Banquets are an opportunity for students to be recognized for their work and accomplishments, as well as have one last chance to be together. With food.
“The food they have is mostly catered, so Olive Garden, Hog Wild or chicken strips with some sides. They also sometimes have people bring things like drinks, chips and desserts,” Minton said.
Banquets may also be the last time seniors are together with their team or club. It gives them a chance to remember the good times, thank their coaches or advisors, and say goodbye to their friends.
“It was such a fun night. I love when they do the baby pictures for seniors and the awards. I love getting to see them tease each other, reminisce about all the fun and shenanigans, as well as cheer each other on,” teacher Alicia Thompson said.
During the year, students put a lot of time into sports and clubs. Athletes go to practices, games, and workouts while also keeping up with schoolwork. Club members spend time planning events and competing in competitions. By the end of the year, students have worked hard, and the banquet is a way to honor that.
“DHS activities have so much heart and teamwork built into them. It is great to see the fruits of that labor,” Thompson said.
