All students eat for free after USDA extends meal program

Need a meal? The Derby Public School district has got it covered.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the free meals program, and as long as funding allows, Derby schools will be serving free meals to students enrolled through Dec. 31.

This ensures that no matter the situation, children have access to nutritional food during the COVID-19 pandemic — and families have one less thing to worry about.

All meals include breakfast and lunch, with an optional selection of extra fruit.

For remote students, the meals are available, as well. Meals must be ordered between 12 p.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Sunday. If the order is unable to be picked up that day, the Food Service Office can be contacted at 316-788-8419, or the Central Kitchen at 316-788-8530.

Order forms and menus can be found on the Derby Public Schools website at https://www.derbyschools.com/.

A student or guardian will pick up meals at the closest school to their home through curbside pickup. Curbside pickup will be available for remote students, as well as if Derby Public Schools transitions to hybrid learning.

Questions can be directed to the Food Service Office or to [email protected].
