Journalism student of the day: Tanner Hopkins

The goal in the journalism department is to have talented people who buy into the goal of producing a phenomenal yearbook and newspaper.

Senior Tanner Hopkins was the direct result of an attempt to recruit one of the best photographers in Derby High School. After seeing his work on Twitter, journalism adviser Joanna Chadwick wrote a direct message to Hopkins to see if he would be interested.

He was. Hopkins joined yearbook for second semester and has been a welcome addition. He will be the photographer for Cowley College next year.

It’s no surprise that Hopkins’ passion is photography, but he also enjoys working on his car. He spends his money on his car and likes to step back, look at it and say, “hey, I did that.”

He experienced the usual surprise of how much work goes into the yearbook. And he appreciates the behind-the-scenes work of co-design editor Kaytlin Hilton.

“She does so much for the yearbook behind the scenes that not very many people know about,” Hopkins wrote.
