Panthers senior wide receiver Tyler Brown, who is in his first month at Derby after transferring from Valley Center, has had an easy transition.

“Everybody really accepted me right away so it wasn’t really hard to start bonding and building team chemistry it was pretty easy to get in sync with everybody,” Brown said.

Brown didn’t have the chance to face Derby when he played at Valley Center, so the home opening 60-28 win over Maize on Sept. 15 was his first experience in the popular Friday night spot.

“It was crazy,” Brown said. “It was really loud, it was just a ton of people in the stands. It was like nothing i’ve really ever experienced before.”

Brown scored his first touchdown for Derby (2-1) running 64 yards in the second quarter.

“I was fortunate enough to have one of the best games I’ve ever played, so it was good. I really enjoyed it so hopefully we can continue that,” he said.

Concern arose over bouncing back from the Goddard loss in Week 2. But after a dominating win, Derby is ready to face visiting Hutchinson (3-0) on Friday.

“I fully believe that we can keep winning and I have hope that we will keep winning,” Brown said.

Hutchinson is Derby’s rival, although the Panthers have won the last three meetings.

“Just another game like Maize, both sides of the field just dominating and going at it,” Brown said.
