The 2017 All-Metro football team was announced yesterday morning, and Derby seniors Evan Clark and Brody Kooser were named to the offensive team for the second straight year.

“It makes it feel like I did good enough this year to get it again… It’s kind of fulfilling, like I kind of did a good job, I guess,” said Clark, a lineman.

“My coaches pushing me and my brothers, my teammates, my drive, kind of like the biggest accomplishment, I guess. I did it, it feels good.”

Clark was injured Week 1 against Goddard-Eisenhower and missed three games before returning on Sept. 29 against Bishop Carroll.

“It’s kind of slow getting back into my swing of things, so even after I came back I was sort of average I guess. I didn’t really play to my full potential for the next like three games, so yeah I was kind of surprised,” Clark said.

Kooser, a running back, ended his senior season with 29 touchdowns and almost 2,000 rushing yards.

“He’s so good,” Clark said.

Kooser was also named to the Top 11, where only 11 players in the entire state are chosen.

He joins Jarrod Foster, the current Derby wide receivers coach, as one of Derby’s 20 Top 11 selections since The Eagle started picking the team in 1961.

All-Metro was created by the Wichita Eagle, made up of players from Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties. Coaches nominated players who they think should be chosen.
